Location. Location. Location
When people book a session, one of the first questions they ask is...
"Where should we take our photos?"
The truth is, the location isn't nearly as important as the light.
Some of our favorite images have been taken in the most unexpected places. A random field, a quiet tree line, the side of a country road, or even a small patch of tall grass can become the perfect backdrop when the light is right.
Beautiful light creates beautiful photographs.
So... what are we looking for?
โ๏ธ Soft, golden light
Whenever possible, we schedule outdoor sessions close to sunset. This "golden hour" gives us that warm, dreamy glow everyone loves without harsh shadows or squinty eyes.
๐ณ Open shade
Sometimes the sun is simply too bright, especially in the middle of the day. Instead of placing you directly in the sunlight, we'll look for open shade. Think the edge of a tree line, beside a building, or anywhere the light is soft and even.
๐พ Simple backgrounds
You don't need an elaborate location to create beautiful photos. In fact, some of the most timeless images happen in the simplest places. We want the focus to be on your family, not on a busy background.
Trust the process.
You may pull up to your session thinking...
"This is the spot?"
We hear it all the time.
Then you see your gallery, and suddenly that ordinary field becomes one of your favorite memories.
As photographers, we're constantly paying attention to where the light is falling, how it's wrapping around your faces, what's happening in the background, and how everything works together. It's something we think about every second of your session so you don't have to.
That's why we'll almost always choose beautiful light over a beautiful location.
Because at the end of the day, it's not the location you'll remember most.
It's the people standing in it. ๐ค
